 Mr and Mrs Knight always visited castles during their holidays... hahaha

So two more new places to discover : Montrottier and Menthon St Benard in Haute Savoie

First the castle of Montrottier.

While DH was climbing in the dungeon I was visiting the

porcelain room and admiring display cases

Pendant que JB grimpait dans le donjon, je visitais les

pièces du château et admirait leurs vitrines

I love fans, I hope you'll see how lovely is this one (hard to take a pic

with the light in the window), there are cute birds on this edge.

Probably embroided, it's very elegant and have a silk look.

J'adore les éventails et celui-là à particulièrement attiré mon attention,

très délicat avec ces oiseaux à l'aspect très soyeux se détachant sur le bord très élégamment.

This lovely girl is knitting, I check because the needles are missing

but you can see the ball of wool under her left elbow!

Ne trouvez-vous pas charmante cette jeune demoiselle tricotant une chaussette ? Les aiguilles sont manquantes mais la pelote de laine est bien sous son coude gauche !

Très jolis carreaux de faïence dans ce fond de cheminée avec parmi toutes ces différentes présentations de métier : la fileuse de laine.

Amusant également ce siège coquille devant le piano.

On another day we went near the lake to Menthon St Bernard

The earl of Menthon family still lives here (23 generations for 1000 years). One of the 105 rooms : the library with 12.000 books.

Le château est habité par la famille du Comte de Menthon depuis toujours (23 générations se sont succédées en mille ans). Une des 105 pièces étant la bibliothèque renommée pour ses 12.000 ouvrages.

François de Menthon, French politician and Resistance fighter,

During our holidays in Changé we spent a day with my aunt and uncle

in Malicorne sur Sarthe for a big exhibition of embroidery

DH aunt bought some tombola tickets and...

she won a brooch she gave to me

All the prices were made by craftperson of the year

this one is made using the "Beauvais stitch"

Dominique avait acheté des billets de tombola lors de notre visite

à Malicorne sur Sarthe pour les JEMA et la chance lui a fait gagner

cette superbe broche réalisée par une meilleure ouvrière

au point de Beauvais. M'en voici l'heureuse bénéficiaire !

Crochet : I'm back with a new project for Capucine

A summer dress made with crocheted squares

I bought five balls in April and started making squares

now I know that I can crocheted seven/eight squares

with a ball, not sure it'll be enough for the dress and

going back to the store I only get one more ball.

So after seeing Capucine and checked the mesurements

I'm planning to crochet a top and see if I can make a skirt

and assemble them together with another wool or only make a long top.

Et voici Capucine, l'acrobate après une chute en grimpant à un arbre?  Entorse plâtrée !

And here's Capucine, the acrobat who fell while climbing a tree?

Sprain in plaster!

I have now a total of 28 squares which means I've got

4 ranks of 7 for the skirt part of the dress maybe only

3 ranks of 8 if it needs to be larger

Another fitting session with my top model soon!

Pour réfléchir au montage des carrés crochetés pour la robe

de Capucine une nouvelle séance d'essayage s'impose donc

en fonction de la largeur désirée je réaliserai des rangs

de sept à huit carrés.

ANNECY EN HAUTE SAVOIE

Le mariage de notre cousine nous a donné l'occasion de passer quelques jours près d'Annecy et de profiter des premiers rayons de soleil en Haute Savoie. 

De jolies visites de châteaux, deux de plus à notre actif ! Une ballade sur le lac, la visite des jardins secrets de Vaulx et de la vieille ville. Très touristique la région attire beaucoup de monde et le viaduc de mai très tentant pour les vacanciers.

We had a cousin wedding near Bourg st Maurice so it was the right time to spend some holidays in mountains as it's about 600 km from home. We chose Annecy and had great visits : more castles... nice gardens.

We took the big tour, 1 hour and half around the lake cruise

and the perfect place to have lunch. To taste a "tartane" for two : you can cook your meat on a warm "hat" and there are also eggplant, zucchini, bell pepper. They serve rice with cream, potatoes and three sauces!

A wonderful blueberry tartlet for dessert!
