WANT TO TIME TRAVEL?

It could be part of my fully finished gallery but would I ever have finished searching for ancestors?

I have mentionned this project a few times but I'm ready this month to give more informations about my fully finished "timeline".

It's a gift for my grandson Timothé who just turn 15 this year!

When I was 20 I started to collect informations about my Dad's family as I didn't knew my grandparents. But I was living 400 km far from the archives which where not numerised in the 80e's, we are speaking of a dinosaurs age!

I spent some holidays in Reims with my aunt and drive to Charleville Mezieres to take a look on some registers.

But no photocopiers either so I only wrote some notes reading some certificates.

When computers gave me the opportunity to visit Archives easily I went back to get further details and kept copies from the pages.

Registers begun from 1660 approximately and I have been lucky to find them in an aera often destroyed by wars.

I reopened my files last June when I got the idea of making a timeline for my grandson, following only one line from fathers to sons and daughters!

From my Dad born in 1922 then Jean-Baptiste, Adonis, Ambroise, Jean-Nicolas fils, Jean-Nicolas père, Simon, Pierre et Jean (around 1633).

I made a simple table with links to historical marks and events just to provide Timothé to think that Louis XVIII was watching television or that trains already existed in the 17th century.

page 1

I found no less then five ways to write my name, lovely old firstnames as : Rigobert, Athanaze, Onérime, Théodor, Ildéphonse for men

or Ismérie, Artémise, Sophronie for women

I even discovered that my great great aunt was named Marie Pacifique!

A lot of laborers, weavers, sawyer,

Infant and youth mortality sadly fills all those books too.

I struggled with the Revolutionary Calendar used in France between 1792 and 1810, changing the names of months, the number of days in a week to 10 and the year from year I to year XI.

Hard too to deciphy writing, the spelling mouving along the years

I must say that it was very interesting to cross the path of small villages lifes and families. Kind of be a witness of weddings, see sisters and brothers becoming godmothers and godfathers. Watch laws that evolved over the centuries.

I might choose another line to follow next time on my Mum side.

Sometimes something came unexpected as a knitted wool scarf to be done as a matter of urgency!

I saw on my phone news that DMC was selling a new special wool for Harry Potter fans.

I don't mind to knit with two different wools to make stripes but it was too tempting to show it to the kids and DSiL1 was the first to "subscribe" and ask for one.

I bought the wool last Friday and start it the Saturday.

You need needles 6.5 and 26 stitches and...    240 rows!

using garter stitch.

I ended it on Thursday, it is  1 m 90  long and I'm going to give it to Yoan as an early birthday present as all the children have planned a trip to London on October 19th. (Am I not the best mother in law on Earth... a least in my street).

Aussitôt DSiL1 a réagi...

Now it's time for a serious talk!
You know I can't wait for my Christmas Countdown
this year the official start will be
on Saturday October the 17th

So save the date...

I'm going to announce my Christmas Countdown plans for 2026!

It's time to go back to school for students and my grandchildren are back to studies.

I have seen many "layers of atmosphere" displays on the net and I like how sciences are often shown in English classroom with DIY works and I thought it would be something nice to make for a kid.

So this is my little gift for Capucine and perfect right time to match with our French astronaut Sophie Adenot in the ISS since February and having Extra Vehicular Activity.

I have cut a pocket to protect it in a laminated wallpaper, it's white and she'll be able to put stickers to decorate it as she likes.

Selection of the 5 cardboards for the atmosphere layers.

Find a small Earth in a magazine.

Adding names, distances, temperatures. Gluing small pieces of cardboard between each layer.

Then I thought it needed more informations about our Solar System and the 7 planets.

Last addition, the mnemonic phrase I choose to remember planets order and names : Me Voilà Toute Mignonne, Je Suis Une Noisette.

kind of : here I am all cute, I'm a hazelnut.   Noisette being the name of her rabbit pet!

I'm far from my goals in sewing, the heatwaves have had a negative impact on my effectiveness, no progress on dresses. But I feel better about small projects hand sewed.

I needed a neck pouch for my phone (Nanny has no jean's pocket!) to hold it when I'm in the garden or listening podcasts when I'm busy at home cleaning.

And since I have seen those little cosy cushions to put phones on I wanted one asap. Best part of the project, open my pieces of fabric boxes and take my time to chose the pattern I'm gonna use.

It's the same pattern as for a "berlingot" pocket, with one longer side for the space that'll receive the phone. I have added some felt in the base and a padded edge to hold it in place.

This month...  knitting is in the spotlight!

My second angora yarn scarf is finished.

Remember I bought some wool visiting the farm "Les p'tits bergers"

This scarf is 146 cm long and will be given soon to DD1.

As she rides her bike early to go to work, it will be useful in winter.

Miguel the Cameleon is a kit from Filantrope broderies, they have quite a collection of outfits and I have chosen girafe.

After a bad start during the Olympics, mixing colors, I took another fabric and here it is. I didn't like the thread at all, very tight I found difficult to work with.

There is a tiny swaroski crystal for the eye.

Today I'm pleased to show you my fully finished angora wool scarf

I bought the wool during a visit to the "p'tits bergers" farm in Chaussy

Aiguilles 3.5

Two balls of yarn of 50 g gave me a scarf 140 cm long.

I have started the same pattern with the blue yarn for DD1.
