We changed our plans about a week in Brittany in June but we've been lucky to spend two days near Angers. We visited the castle, a funny exhibition about mermaids and could see the beauty of the Tapisserie of Apocalypse after a delicious meal in Pont Pont restaurant.

I chose melon and ham (DH voting for a spinach velouté)
then a delicious quail and
a strawberry soup with ice cream
The visit of the tapestry galery is just breath taking, made in 1380 more than 100 m long, the designs, details, colors, everything is amazing.
A temporary exhibition about mermaids was fun too.

"le chant des ondes" sur les sirènes.
We spent the night in the château de Tourlandry (we had a travel box gift never used and adding more money we managed to get a nice Napoléon III style bedroom). The place is cosy but the rain invited itself at the end of the afternoon so no picnic in the garden.
The owners said they didn't get our reservation for diner (I think the truth is more that they didn't want to cook for only 2 guests) so we bought some food and planned to eat in the garden but a big showering rain came at 19 and stayed... Has any rain stopped me to do what I want, no way, we run under the porch and had our meal under it!
and on Wednesday afternoon reached Brissac for one more castle to discover.

Lunch at the restaurant "La luciole", a lovely place, nice menu and the restaurant staff was very kind.
After leaving the "Napoléon III" bed and breakfast we stopped at "Lalie and Laly" in Chemillé to buy some DMC threads I need for a new project on perforated paper.
Two wonderful visits, delicious meals and one haberdashery! The best recipe for a perfect mid-week for me!
Sounds like you had a wonderful time exploring with delicious food and plenty of exploring! That tapestry is so impressive. Especially considering people back than didn't have patterns to work from and so much of the motif just came out of their imagination!
