RETOUR A LA COUTURE

 Back to sewing...

It's a long time since I have felt the "sewing spirit" close to me. I don't know how to explain it but I'm always ready for cross stitch, crochet or scrapbooking but to sew I must feel that it is a sewing day. Can't tell you how but if I feel that special spirit I know my projects will be ok.

My "bought for my retirement" new sewing machine is out of order, something is broken in the bobin case.

I had given my old one to DD3 who have kindly lent it back to me during her holidays.

I have a lot of boxes full of different fabrics I have bought over the years, + some from my Mum, + some from a collegue and old but not damaged clothes I kept to offer them a second life.

I have sewed to myself a lot of clothes when I was young : dresses, skirts and tops, matching fabric bags. Curtains, cushions, blankets for the house.

While my waistline was growing, my ambition for elaborate clothes was shrinking, so now only large tops, large jackets, large dresses are on my to do list with some projects of patchwork covers and doll outfits.

I have in mind a summer dress using fabric and a crocheted top but I don't remember where is the fabric.

I'm sorting through my boxes and selecting fabric I can put together for a kind of large top (again the puncho type).

I'm assembling vertical strips and I'll see if I close the top under the arms or I use a knot like for the one I made last month. Maybe only use a belt.

No more chit-chat, action and pictures now...

I had bought an apron on an Egyptian market in 1986 with those little hieroglyphes designs, I have kept it hoping I could use it in a better way then to wash the dishes.

I have associated it with a dark green fabric certainly bought for a skirt I never made and with some pale yellow from a baby bed sheet.

The neckline is larger than I expected but it's ok and if I don't feel comfy with it I can sew some yellow fabric. Only time will tell (OMG that was a song I like so much from Asia)...

Second project started with a kind of jean type fabric with this amazing world map pattern. It's too thick for a top but I hope not too thick for a long jacket. I have added a egg shell white, a light brown (from dresses projects) and some pale blue green jean.

I have seen a lot of bags made from old jeans, with crochet squares or embroideries as customisation. I had this 5 years old dress so why not try it!

Cut the skirt, sew it, add a ribbon for a nice finish. I'll probably use the straps as handles and maybe the pocket as a... pocket!

It was the right time to replace my old neck cushion and cut in an old cotton sheet some U shapes, sew them and put back into the seeds from the old one whick had become dirty from microwave uses.
